Karzon Hall

Karzon Hall,

Curzon Hall is a historic building located in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.  It was built for use in Dhaka College but is currently being used as some classrooms and examination halls in the Science Department of Daka University.  In 1904, Lord George Natharian, Viceroy of India, laid the foundation stone of Curzon Hall.  The hall was later renamed Curzon Hall after him.

The Curzon Hall building was the site of a public protest in 1948 against making Urdu the state language of Pakistan.  March 24, 1948 was the convocation ceremony of Dhaka University.  The then Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Jinnah came to Dhaka.  At an event at Daka University, Muhammad Ali Jinnah announced that Urdu would be the only state language of Pakistan.  Then all the students there protested at the same time saying no, no.  As a result, Curzon Hall became involved in the language movement.

Curzon Hall is currently being used as one of the main buildings of Dhaka University.  Most of the science departments are located in this building.  To the west of the building is the central playground of Dhaka University and to the south is the Shahidullah Hall of Daka University.  This huge building with inlaid artwork has a large central hall.  Spacious garden in front and huge pond in the back.  The main building of Sher-e-Bangla Hall is on the west bank of this pond.  And next to it is Shahidullah Hall.

Curzon Hall is a wonderful combination of European and Mughal architectural styles.  And this is especially noticeable in the middle of the notched arch on the north front.  The arches were made with a combination of modern architecture and Mughal shapes.  Its domes again bear the hallmarks of modern Islamic architecture.  Architects say that the design of the fort at Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbar, bears an architectural resemblance to the design of Curzon Hall.

At present this Curzon Hall is the academic building of Dhaka University but it is also being used as one of the entertainment centers for students and tourists from home and abroad.  Every day thousands of tourists from this university and abroad gather here.  Curzon Hall can easily convey the greenery and indescribable joy to nature even in the hustle and bustle of the capital city. The student of Dhaka University and the general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League said that all the movements of Bangladesh including the language movement started from this Curzon Hall.  And the traditional student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League was formed from this Curzon Hall.

Apart from Curzon Hall, Musa Kha Mosque is another historical building of Dhaka University.  Musa Kha Mosque is next to the fire extinguishing unit of Dhaka University.  Next to the Musa Kha Mosque is the tomb of the linguist Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah.

There was an inscription on the central entrance of the mosque and the construction of this mosque, naming, the right history of the constructioners was not known. The name of this mosque is Moses Khan Mosque, but its founder Musa Khan said the historians said. It is assumed that the mosque was built in 1679.The mosque is built on a 3 meter high bold platform.  The Bold Platform T is 17 meters long and 14 meters wide.  The mosque has several rooms on the platform.

This beautiful mosque has 3 domes.  The front wall has 3 doors.  And on the south and north walls there is a door.  Moreover there is a huge veranda in front of it.  The mosque was named after Musa Khan, the eldest son of Isa Khan, the leader of the Bara Bhuiyans.  So far today.  Thanks.
