Dhaka|History of Dhaka,

Dhaka is the capital of the South Asian state of Bangladesh. Administratively, Dhaka is the main city of Bangladesh. Geographically it is located in a flat place north of the river Buriganga in the center of Bangladesh. Dhaka Bangladesh is a super metropolis. The population of Dhaka metropolis is about 1 crore 50 lakhs. It is the fourth largest city in South Asia in terms of population and the ninth largest in the world. Dhaka is the most densely populated city in the world in terms of people. With an area of 134 square miles, this city has a population of 115,000 people per square mile.

Now I will know about the naming history of Dhaka.

There is widespread disagreement over the exact history of naming Dhaka. It is said that King Ballal Sen of the Sen dynasty was on the banks of the river Buriganga While traveling along the river, he found a statue of the Hindu goddess Durga. As a devotion to Goddess Durga, he established a Durga temple in the area. The idol of the goddess was found covered or in secret so he named the temple Dhakeswari Mandir. According to the name of the temple, the area gradually came to be known as Dhaka.

According to many historians, when the Mughal emperor Jahangir declared Dhaka as the capital of Bengal Then Subedar Islam Khan happily instructed everyone to play the drums. And the story of playing the drums once became a popular legend and was later renamed Dhaka.

The city of Dhaka is currently divided into two parts, one Dhaka North and one Dhaka South. Dhaka South is basically the main city. Dhaka North Dhaka consists of some new suburbs.

Now let's come to the history and heritage of Dhaka.

Dhaka was occupied by Muslim rulers in the late thirteenth century AD. Dhaka was declared the capital of Bengal on 16th July 1610 AD on the orders of Mughal Emperor Jahangir. That is why Dhaka was named Jahangirnagar after the Mughal emperor Jahangir at that time. The name of this city was Jahangirnagar till the time of Emperor Jahangir. Earlier, during the reign of Emperor Babur, Bihar was the provincial capital of Bihar and Orissa. At that time the anti-Mughal Bara Bhuiyans were ruling independently in Bengal. Bengal was then repeatedly attacked from 1576 to 1605 to liberate Bengal from the control of the Bara Bhuiyans. Then in 1608, during the reign of Emperor Jahangir, Islam Khan Chishti was appointed subedar of the Rajmahal. Then Islam Khan Chishti moved the capital of Bengal from Rajmahal to Dhaka in 1610 AD considering its geographical location. The Bara Bhuiyans fell in just 5 years after Subedar Islam Khan Chishti took charge.  And at present some areas of Chittagong came under the Mughals through the Subedars.

Although Dhaka was the capital of Bengal in 1610 AD, the capital of Bengal has been changed many times. In 1650, Subedhar Shah Shuja again shifted the capital of Bengal to Rajmahal. But after the fall of Subedar Shah Sujar in 1660, the capital of Bengal was again shifted to Dhaka. From then on, Dhaka enjoyed the status of the capital of Bengal for some time. Then in 1717 Nawab Murshidpuri Khan again shifted the capital of Bengal to Murshidabad. From then on Dhaka was ruled by Naib Nazim of Mughal period. And this reign lasted until the beginning of British rule in 1793.  The British then again chose Calcutta as the capital of Bengal.  And as a result, the importance of Dhaka is declining again. For a long time after that, in 1905, Dhaka was chosen as the capital of Bengal.
